چکیده

Room-temperature perpendicular magnetic anisotropy ~PMA! was observed in Ni/Pt multilayer films having 7–30 Å Ni and constant 3 Å Pt sublayer thickness, prepared by magnetron sputtering at an Ar sputtering pressure of 7 mTorr. To understand the origin of PMA, the magnetoelastic anisotropy was determined from delicate in situ stress and ex situ magnetostriction coefficient measurements. Tensile stress, inversely decreased with the Ni sublayer thickness, was observed in all samples prepared at this sputtering pressure while the magnetostriction coefficient was found to be negatively increased as the Ni sublayer thickness increased. From the measurements of stress and magnetostriction coefficient, we have found the magnetoelastic anisotropy of 2.88– 4.72310 erg/cm in the samples, which was large enough to overcome negative contributions from the surface and shape anisotropies. Thus, it could be concluded that the magnetoelastic anisotropy plays a major role in yielding PMA in this system. @S0163-1829~99!50110-0#

Observation of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Ni/Pt multilayers at room temperature

We report the experimental observation of room-temperature perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Ni/Pt multilayers having 7–26 Å Ni and 2.3–4.6 Å Pt layer thicknesses, prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on glass substrates at 7 mTorr Ar sputtering pressure. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was found to be sensitively dependent on both Niand Pt-layer thicknesses, and a maximum anisotropy energy...

Induced easy-axis reorientation in NiÕPd multilayers upon Ar sputtering pressure

We have studied the easy-axis reorientation of Ni/Pd multilayer with varying Ar sputtering pressure. All the Ni/Pd multilayers prepared by dc-magnetron sputtering at an Ar sputtering pressure of 2 mTorr show in-plane magnetic anisotropy. However, room-temperature perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was observed in Ni/Pd multilayers prepared at an Ar sputtering pressure of 7 mTorr. To understand t...

Magnetic Properties and Structural Study of Ni-Co/Cu Multilayers Prepared by Electrodeposition Method

Ni-Co/Cu multilayers have been grown by electrodeposition method from a single electrolyte (based on Ni(SO4).6H2O, Co(SO4).7H2O, Cu(SO4) and H3BO3) using galvanostatic control on titanium sublayers. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns confirmed the multilayered structure with the nanometer thicknesses. Also, electron diffraction x-ray (EDX)  analysis confirmed the purity of deposited samples. ...

Evolution of magnetic domain reversal with temperature in Co ÕPt multilayers observed by magneto-optical Kerr imaging

The evolution of magnetic domain structures with temperature during magnetic reversal in Co 4 Å /Pt tPt multilayers with perpendicular anisotropy has been investigated using magneto-optical Kerr imaging. Relatively large Pt layer thicknesses tPt=43 and 63 Å are chosen for this study because the interlayer coupling strength in the multilayers varies from weak at room temperature to strong at low...
